Quinacridone Rose Light | Matisse Studio acrylic paint

Matisse Studio Quinacridone Rose Light is a joyous hot pink colour that evokes the intense fuchsia hues of Australian native flora—from the vibrant gum flowers of Eucalyptus leucoxylon rosea to the brilliant deep pink tones of particular Waratah endemic to the east coast. This colour draws on the intensity and celebrated legacy of Quinacridone Violet to deliver a sumptuous visual bouquet of pinks suitable for any palette, from expressive landscapes and florals to reflective portraits and beyond. 

Quinacridone pigments were first identified in the late 19th century, but it wasn’t until advancements in chemical synthesis during the late 1950s that these vibrant hues could be produced commercially for artists, though several further attempts were made to fine-tune the formula. Following these developments, Quinacridone colours grew to be some of the most widely adored due to their exceptional clarity and high tinting strength, perfect for pure colour mixes and vibrant glazing techniques. Its versatility and reliability as a highly stable pigment quickly attracted artists, particularly those in the abstract expressionist movement.

Matisse Studio Quinacridone Rose Light pays homage to these pigments, as a generous blend of Quinacridone Magenta and Violet. The subtle introduction of Titanium White within the formula builds on the respective histories of these colours, adding opacity for a richer, more solid appearance without softening into a pastel. This shift affords greater coverage and depth, making it suitable for subtle rosy undertones when painting pink flesh. It is particularly effective for portraiture when combined with earthy base colours such as Yellow Oxide. When mixed with Australian Leaf Green, deep loamy mauves and warm browns emerge, perfect for rendering skin tones, shadow effects or describing wooded enclaves and evocative evening scenes.
