Australian Ghost Gum | Matisse Studio acrylic paint

Australian Ghost Gum is inspired by the spectral beauty of its namesake, a striking tree with smooth off-white bark, endemic to the arid plains and rocky ranges of Central Australia. In local Arrernte language, the Ghost Gum is called Ilwempe, a tree revered for its healing properties as a natural antiseptic, among other uses. These elegant giants notably feature in the work of renowned Arrernte artist Albert Namatjira, expressing the muted luminosity of the Central Australian bush and spiritual link between First Nations people and the land. Many landscape artists continue to find inspiration in the subtle tones of our flora, prizing this uniquely Australian colour for its ability to emulate the soft features of not only Ghost Gum bark, but a variety of native plants and geological features.
