Australian Leaf Green | Matisse Studio acrylic paint

Inspired by the rugged beauty of our country, Australian Leaf Green is a deep and transparent colour that is reminiscent of dense, shadowy undergrowth and rich green-brown foliage found in the Australian bush. This unique hue is slightly more subdued than the bright, acidic, emerald greens and golden yellows typical of traditional European paint palettes. This subtle muted quality is due to the addition of Naphthol red, introducing an earthiness that speaks to the iron oxide rich soil found in varying intensities throughout Australia, and infused within the flora. Subdued yet invigorating, Australian Leaf Green makes an excellent companion for landscape paintings, botanical studies and more.

When mixed with Titanium White, this colour evokes the dusky blue-grey undertones of eucalyptus leaves, making it ideal for misty scenes and delicate highlights. Combined with Burnt Umber, it creates dark earthy brown-greens that mimic the understories. Mixed with Cobalt Blue or ultramarine, it is ideal for capturing evening light or dense foliage. The inherently balanced nature of this hue also makes it a fantastic neutraliser for overly bright or saturated colours, helping to ground a composition without being overpowering. Quietly powerful and endlessly adaptable Australian Leaf Green is a versatile choice for adding a touch of organic beauty to any artwork.
