HANDS-ON WORKSHOP: MATISSE ACRYLICS & MEDIUMS : ERINA

Bring both your sense of humour and your sense of adventure, to join artist Donna Gilbertson in her hands-on workshop, using Matisse Acrylic Paints and Mediums. Take this opportunity to learn how to use Matisse Structure Formula acrylic paints, using either a brush or a painting knife. This is also your chance to try the brand-new Matisse Matt Gel Medium. Get up to speed with transparent painting using Matisse Flow Formula acrylic paints with Matisse Retarder and Matisse Surface Tension Breaker. Given time, Donna will also cover the use of more mediums. You will definitely have the chance to get outside your comfort zone, and every student will get a free goodie bag.

Together with artist Sue Raccanello, you will create your own graphite pencil sketch using Derivan's amazing Liquid Pencil. It has the consistency of cream, can be thinned easily with water and can cover large areas quickly. Sue will guide you step by step in its use, from the transferring of your image to your paper, right through to the finished work. You will create your own own artwork under Sue's tuition, choosing from one of two images, a chimpanzee or a vintage truck.

Be sure to see artist Mignon Parker's exciting and colourful demonstration of Matisse acrylic paints and mediums. Not only will you learn what these paints and mediums can do, but Mignon will share with you her personal tips and tricks, and much more. Discover many and varied ways of using gessos and gels to apply texture and interest to your artwork, and learn how to take these fascinating mediums one step further.
MATISSE OPEN DAY 2008
Don’t miss the Annual Matisse Open Day on Saturday 18th October, 2008, from 10am until 2pm at the Matisse Derivan Factory, 1 Northcote Street, Mortlake, Sydney.
The day will include a showcase of demonstrations from Australian artists, free workshops, factory tours and body painting. There will also be clowns, free face painting for the children and a giant sausage sizzle.
A variety of arts and crafts will be on show to help unleash your creativity with more hands on activities than any other year. Visitors will be able to try the range of Matisse Derivan quality paints and mediums by participating in free workshops conducted throughout the day. Bookings will be taken for these workshops, and will be available from this page closer to the date.
All forms of art and craft will be catered for with artists demonstrating various techniques on the day including landscape painting, watercolour techniques, miniature figure painting and gaming, airbrushing, decorative art, stamping, calligraphy, scrapbooking, printmaking, fabric painting and more!
Entry to the Open Day is free, and the first 200 visitors through the gate will receive a free sample bag of Matisse Derivan products.

OPEN DAY WORKSHOPS
Below is information on the workshops which will be available at the Matisse Open Day 2008.
All workshops will be free of charge and bookings are essential. Artists and presenters donate their time to share their knowledge with you! However, some workshops will have specific requirements (such as brushes etc) which participants will need to bring to participate.These will be listed with the workshops.
Workshop 1 - Diana Brandt

Workshop Name: Decorated Papers
Time: 10:30am
Duration: 1 Hour

Participant Requirements:
- dagger brush or 1" flat brush
- liner brush
- If you HAVE firm quality rice papers, or watercolour paper, or other special paper that you would like to decorate, please bring it. Do not go out and buy it, because Matisse will supply plenty of cartridge paper.
About the workshop : Decorated papers - another great way to use your paints. Join Diana in a fun hour, decorating papers to be used in books, as cards or wrapping paper.
Workshop 2 - Annie McMahon

Workshop Name: Linocut Printing

About the workshop :
Relief printing is the oldest form of printmaking. In this class we will be using lino, an excellent printmaking technique for a beginner. Lino is a relatively soft material and easy to cut using a V tool or gouge. Tools must be sharp as blunt tools can easily tear the lino.
The workshop will cover:
De-greasing the lino.
Different methods to mark out your design, and placement of your image.
Negative and positive - the basics of relief design.
Cutting techniques and tools - easy ways how to cut lino into any shape or size.
Printing a clear image.
Hand colouring.
Workshop 3 - beth blinston

About the workshop:
Complete this painting in one hour on a canvas board 7 cms x 6.5 cms(supplied). Beth has used some of the latest Matisse colours to paint this miniature landscape, including Australian Olive Green and Raw Umber Deep.
Workshop 4 - Tim Gratton
Workshop Name: Body painting workshop
Time: 11:00
Duration: 2 hours
Location: Workshop area B

Participant Requirements: NOTHING! Bring yourself!
About the workshop:
Discover Tim Gratton's tips and tricks in the art of body painting. You will be paired up with another student to paint each other. Tim's two hour workshop will show the difference between the application of paint to the body from other mediums, and the diversity of working with paint on skin.
